Spanish Teacher

Grace Hickok is a Lima, Peru native who graduated from the Center of Tourism Formation (CENFOTUR). With a specialization in tour conducting and operations management for both international and domestic high school students, Miss Hickok applied her passion for teaching to the Peruvian Tourist Industry and created a program that helps international students learn Spanish through real life experiences. She took these students to popular tourist attractions such as Machu-Picchu and Cuzco to give non-Spanish speakers the opportunity to interact with native Spanish speakers. Miss Hickok believes that full Spanish immersion of the environment is key to learning the language quickly, and she teaches using the Natural Approach method, which focuses on comprehensible input, listening to the target language in the classroom, and activities such as NTPRS (New Total Physical Response through storytelling), flash cards, puppets, and games.A critical concept for second-language development for students with and without learning difficulties is comprehensible input, students are going to be able to understand the essence of what is being said or presented to them in the class.
