This class encourages student’s love of adventure and curiosity about the world around them with this gentle study that incorporates hilarious and heartwarming stories, discussion questions, hands-on activities, recipes, pretend play and acting, video links, website research and more.
Travel back in time to different eras, throughout the world in our unique history class. Learning history is most useful when told through engaging stories, folktales, fables, novels, music, art, poetry, movies, pictures books and more. There is much to be learned from history, it shows us what we can aspire to and what we ought to avoid or correct.
Students will be introduced to history through delightful children’s picture books and novels. Our students will study world geography and culture with award-winning literature. From the first Indigenous people of the Americas, the Vikings discovery of America, the exploration, colonization, settlement, and establishment of the United States. Spanning 1000 AD to the mid-1800's this course makes this literature-rich curriculum so fun. We will also cover Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. In Asia we explore China, Japan, Thailand, and India. In Africa we visit Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ghana.
We will also study U.S. Geography which jumps off the page with this literature-based study. Follow a mountain-climbing grandmother, fruit-tree hauling pioneers, a homesick city boy in a desert and many more interesting characters as they lead you on journeys around the United States.
From tundra to volcanoes, beaches to deserts, mountains to badlands, students will learn geographic terms, functional mapping skills, and how to use a compass. This class weaves all these elements into a rich, enjoyable, and inspiring study of history and geography.
Our Philosophy is to teach the big picture of historical events, not to be bogged down by memorizing dates and names but the importance history plays to shape the present and future. This class is sure to ignite curiosity about our nation's and world’s history. Students will be immersed in the era and events through projects and discussions. At the end of the course, students will have a rich foundational understanding of United State geography, United States History and History from around the world. state symbols, directions, and mapping. Most importantly, we hope that this course inspires your students to ask questions, engage in meaningful discussions, and get outside to see and experience all the natural beauty the world has to offer.
$200/month billed monthly, due on the 1st of every month, 10 monthly payments, Aug-May.Families who join the class after August will be required to pay a $200 material fee.
